Message I was taking my girlfriend home (to meet curfew) in, ironically, my old neon...

We were traveling down concord church road, which is a relatively straight road with a few twists. Completely dry, but my tires needed changing...badly. I went around a curve at about 95 mph in the neon (stupid in the first place, straight road or no), and it simply lost traction.

I didn't know how to drive at the time, and managed to overcorrect twice before running off the road. Judging by the skid marks, I missed the first tree by less than a foot, and a pile of rocks by about three feet that were further down.

I then hit a telephone pole on the right rear axle of the car, the only place on the car where it wouldn't have potentially killed both of us (I am aware the possibility was still there, but it's a LOT less likely). It shoved the axle in two and a half feet, and both me and my girlfriend were in shock.

We both were able to get out of the car relatively unharmed (no stitches whatsoever, I had some really bad bruising but nothing in the long run).

The worst part was, in fact, calling my parents and her parents.

My sister took pictures of the car, I won't be able to get them before this post expires, but they were pretty bad. I don't think I'll ever outgrow the shame from that day. I also don't drive like an idiot (excessive speeding) anymore.

We all learn at some point in time...
